R&D Leader profile

R&D experience

From research to a solution proven in practice.

Selected roles and projects of Grzegorz Wałowski, DSc Eng., Professor at ITP-PIB, show continuity of responsibility: from understanding the phenomenon through research and technology development to testing and implementation.

Selected projects

Roles, scope and concrete outcomes.

Rather than a complete list, these projects best demonstrate cross-disciplinary experience in energy, processes, measurement equipment and complex R&D delivery.

01

HUGE / HUGE2 · Central Mining Institute

Hydrodynamics of materials after coal gasification

Project participant

Research into underground coal gasification at the Barbara Experimental Mine and the Wieczorek Coal Mine. The work included assessing permeability and pressure drop in porous materials using phenomenological and numerical descriptions.

02

BIOSTRATEG 2 · KompUtyl

Technical assumptions for a mono-substrate biogas plant

Expert

R&D work on the comprehensive management of waste generated during pig fattening. The outcomes included structural assumptions and technical parameters for a biogas installation.

03

BIOSTRATEG 1 · BIOGAS&EE

Continuous responsibility from research to an operating installation

Expert · project manager · implementation lead

The project covered operational research and optimisation of a prosumer biogas installation, an assessment of farm demand, and deployment of a biogas production installation at a farm in Ocieszyn.

04

CLIMBEX S.A. · NCBR

Automated decontamination technology

Technical coordinator of industrial research

Coordination of work on a technology for decontaminating equipment and petroleum-product tanks. The scope included structural assumptions and technical parameters for an automated cleaning installation.

05

BSH · Łukasiewicz Research Network consortium

Reducing heat exchanger clogging

Project manager

Analysis of particle adhesion and hydrodynamics in drum-dryer heat exchangers. The work resulted in guidelines for reducing particle deposition.

06

Implementation project · Łukasiewicz Research Network consortium

AI-supported automatic control system

Project manager

Development of an artificial-intelligence solution to improve boiler economics under variable loads, including research and functional testing on the actual facility.

07

ZEOLITY · Łukasiewicz – EMAG

Measurement rig for zeolite heat storage

Project manager

The project combined a Raspberry Pi 5 data-acquisition board, a pressure measurement system, signal processing using a miniSTM32 module, and MATLAB modelling and visualisation of temperature distributions.

Value for the partner

Experience translated into the way a project is delivered.

A project track record matters when it helps reduce risk, plan credible validation and lead the team to an unambiguous decision.

01

Problem definition and methodology

Translating a technical phenomenon into hypotheses, a research plan, measurement parameters and assessment criteria.

02

Team and scope management

Coordinating tasks, schedules, costs, reporting and cooperation among academia, industry and public administration.

03

Validation in real-world conditions

Combining modelling, research rigs, laboratory measurements and tests carried out on an operating facility.

04

Transition to implementation

Preparing a solution, installation or guidelines so that the research outcome supports a specific technology decision.

Programmes and collaboration

Projects built across sectors.

The experience covers statutory research and public programmes as well as industrial commissions, consortia and international collaboration.

01

National and public programmes

BIOSTRATEG 1 and 2, work for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the CAP Strategic Plan and assignments relating to renewable energy, soil protection and environmental outcomes in agriculture.

02

International collaboration

Projects and research with teams from Prague, Berlin and Lviv, as well as participation in the BIOEAST Foresight and RENALDO initiatives.

03

Industry and research networks

Projects delivered with companies and Łukasiewicz Research Network institutes — from energy and measurement equipment to environmental and process technologies.

Next step

Let us discuss a project intended for implementation.

We will begin with the objective, available data, technical conditions and the decision that the research needs to enable.
